1. Save your money and don’t waste time

Save your money and expensive resources in the process of developing good e-learning content. You’ve probably already got 90% of the content you need in your organization’s files and resources. You’re only missing a simple tool to make it yourself. Simple, fast and effective. Therefore, use LMS solutions with smart built-in course-builders, where you can prepare all the e-learning courses you need and assign it to your organization. Try eloomi, a learning management system which provides an easy and user-friendly platform to do exactly that.

2. Make your e-learning content even more simple

It’s not surprising that some e-learning content will perform better than others. Obviously, you want the best e-learning content available, but remember that your organization often wants quick access to knowledge, and it should be fast to work through. Make sure that you only spend extra resources on the most important part of your e-learning program. Good e-learning content does not need to train employees on every minute detail of the business model. As long as they’re informed about relevant topics and details related to their role, team members will have everything that they need.

3. But keep your e-learning content just challenging enough

Don’t feed your organization with too much e-learning content, make them work for it. E-learning content that’s too easy fails to engage the curiosity and spark the desire to learn. Throwing out challenges and hurdles will give your organization the satisfaction of a job well-done and a lesson well-learned. Ensure motivation, acknowledgement and feedback, and include self-tracking and gamification.

4. Match relevant training to your audience

Good e-learning content  will have an appropriate difficulty that matches the course’s title and objective, as well as the assigned audience. You want to aim high, yes, but you don’t want to aim so high that it’s too hard to pass the e-learning course. If your e-learning content is too hard to understand, too academically loaded and too dry, you’ll only accomplish a high drop-out rate. With one bad experience to the organization, you need 98% good ones to get back on track.

5. Test, learn and get insights to be better

Don’t assume all your learners understand everything you show them. You’ll want to test their knowledge and competences at some point. It’s important to pause every once in a while and make sure everyone is on the same page. The best way to do that is administering a test or assessment activity of some kind. Tests, quizzes and surveys are important and needed. Your assessment should come integrated with the content, so you can gauge how your organization is absorbing the material. If the average score is low, slow it down to make sure they’re able to keep up.

6. Overcome lack of engagement in your e-learning content

Don’t miss out on multimedia. If you want to create good e-learning content for your course, take advantage of as many multimedia resources as you can, like videos, graphics, and animations. That way, you not only give your organization a break from the written e-learning content, but you also stimulate those who are more adept at visual learning, which will often be more than half of your organization. Furthermore, the click-rate on a video is much higher than a text, so make the most of your media.

7. Look and feel is everything

Do not use a complex learning system to provide your e-learning content. Make sure your solution is best-on-market and motivate the organization. Use gamification in combination with the visual solution. This will get the organization back for participation at your next content launch. Complexity at the cost of simplicity gives bad experiences. Simple things like a solution that works anywhere, anytime on any device are super important. Studies show that just around 11% use existing running solutions for the purpose of learning, based on non-simplicity thinking!

8. Anchoring the learning to push performance forward

Good e-learning content with high importance should not “die” with the learning. It should be brought to “life” and be measured and tracked after the learning has taken place. Focus on learnings that are easy to convert into simple and understandable measure-points for the individuals and their managers. Rate, coach, and by that, increase the learning effects and performance on the skills learned to 30%+. Studies show it is easy to achieve, and eloomi sees its own clients reach even higher results.

9. Avoid the same type of e-learning content in your course

Don’t forget about quality written content either. Don’t rely on multimedia resources as the basis of your content. Your e-learning content should contain a mix of quality written text and multimedia. Remember that your content should be well-researched, engaging and credible. It’s important to keep the organization in the learning loop.

10. Unneeded tangents in e-learning content

Because it’s so easy for anyone to create e-learning content through a smart course-builder, sometimes the creators don’t take the course content very seriously. Some may use it as a platform to express their sense of humor, political or religious views. While humor has it’s time and place, keep the content specific to your main message if possible.
